The Gutenberg block editor, which was introduced with the WordPress 5.0 release in December 2018, introduces a completely new modular approach to website creation.

25 Best Gutenberg WordPress Block Plugins (2023)

The classic WordPress (TinyMCE) editor consolidated all of your content into a single text box. Gutenberg provides blocks for every element on your page that can be easily dragged and dropped.

Do you want to add a heading? That has its own heading block.

Do you want to include an image? There is a picture block for that.

Do you want to include some custom HTML? There’s also a section for custom HTML.

You get the idea. There is a block for everything you want to include on your website!

WordPress includes a number of blocks by default for adding content to pages. While the list is constantly growing, there are currently around 70 blocks available in the Gutenberg editor.

However, because WordPress is WordPress, you can always install third-party plugins that provide a plethora of Gutenberg blocks to expedite your workflow.

That is exactly what we have for you in this article.

We’ve compiled a list of the top 25 Gutenberg block plugins that you can use right away to create stunning websites.

Let’s look into your options!

What Is the Gutenberg Block Editor in WordPress?

First, some background.

WordPress’s default page editor is now the Gutenberg block editor. The new block editor replaced the classic TinyMCE editor with the release of WordPress 5.0.

Unlike the classic editor, which required you to add all of your content into one large content area, the block editor allows you to add each element as a separate block.

Each block has its own set of settings that can be easily changed.

Some of the most common and default Gutenberg blocks are:

  • Heading
  • Paragraph
  • Image
  • List
  • Gallery
  • Quote
  • Video
  • Custom HTML
  • Table
  • Spacer
  • Buttons
  • Columns
  • Separator
  • YouTube
  • Facebook
  • Instagram

Here’s a complete list of all the Gutenberg blocks by default.

What Difference Does Gutenberg Make to WordPress?

If you’ve been using the classic editor, you’ve probably noticed that popular page builders like Elementor and Beaver Builder provide a lot more features and functionality.

Using these page builders, you can easily create stunning websites. Drag and drop functionality allows you to do a lot of things, from customizations to background effects and more.

In terms of page builders, the block editor still has some catching up to do. Nonetheless, Gutenberg is a significant improvement over the traditional editor of the past.

According to our comprehensive guides on Gutenberg vs. Elementor and Gutenberg vs. Beaver Builder, websites built with Gutenberg load much faster.

On the one hand, you have faster loading sites created with Gutenberg, and on the other, you have more visually appealing websites created with page builders.

Gutenberg is gradually catching up to page builders in terms of design capabilities, thanks to ongoing improvements and exciting updates.

It won’t be long before it completely replaces page builders.

What Advantages Do Blocks Offer?

When compared to the classic editor, the Gutenberg block editor has more features and flexibility.

Here are some of the advantages of using the Gutenberg block editor.

  • The Gutenberg editor is less cluttered, making writing easier. Creating pages and posts is easier with more screen space and less clutter than in the classic editor.
  • Provides a drag-and-drop editor for easily adding blocks to your page. While it still lags behind page builders, it is far superior to the traditional editor.
  • Make more beautiful layouts without touching a single line of code. Astra Starter Templates provides you with professionally designed website templates that are Gutenberg-ready!
  • Once you’ve added the blocks to your page, you can easily edit, move, and customize them.
  • Tables, videos, social media, and other media can be embedded without the use of any additional plugins or code.
  • It is now much easier to create custom blocks.
  • Make reusable blocks that will allow you to reuse content across multiple posts or pages.

To summarize, if you enjoy creating content without the use of complicated page builders, the Gutenberg block editor is for you!
