Most people will be perfectly content with one of the free advertising plugins on this list.
Let’s get started so you can start making money.
Compared are the five best WordPress advertising plugins.
Here are the top WordPress ad management plugins – I’ve ordered them roughly based on my personal preferences, but these aren’t specific rankings because the best plugin for you will depend on your specific needs.
1. Ad Inserter
The most popular advertising plugin on WordPress.org is Ad Inserter.
There’s a reason for this: even in its free version, this plugin is incredibly versatile when it comes to automatically inserting ads into your content.
Overall, I believe Ad Inserter should be at the top of your list if you want the most flexibility for automatically injecting ads and targeting them to specific users/content.

The interface is Ad Inserter’s only drawback. While it is fully functional, it is fairly basic and not particularly user-friendly (at least in my opinion – you might disagree). Some of the interface details are a little confusing to me.
That being said, once you figure out how the interface works, you get a lot of powerful functionality for free, so I believe the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. This is one of the best WordPress Advertising Plugins in 2025.
Important Characteristics:
- You have a lot of options for automatic ad insertion (detailed below).
- Insert AdSense and other ad platforms, as well as your own custom ads. Images, JavaScript, HTML, and other technologies can be used to create custom ads.
- Advertisement rotation
- Targeting rules that are detailed – target by content, user type, device, and much more.
- Statistics on ad impressions and clicks – you can also generate PDF reports to send to clients. Aside from impressions and clicks, you can also track your visitors’ adblock usage.
- A/B split testing
- Limit the number of impressions/clicks received by an ad by using frequency capping.
- Improve ad performance and Core Web Vitals with lazy loading.
- Sticky advertisements
Ad Insertion Options
One of Ad Inserter’s strong points is its flexibility in inserting advertisements. This includes both manual and automatic inserting.
If you want to place ads manually, you have the following options:
- Shortcode
- Widget
- PHP function
However, you also have a plethora of options for automatically inserting advertisements into your content. Here’s a partial list of the conditions for which you can inject ads before or after:
- Content for posting
- Particular paragraph number (e.g. after the third paragraph)
- Paragraph at random
- Image
- Comments
- Excerpts
- CSS selector – there is also a visual element selector that allows you to easily select specific placements.
- Header
- Footer
You can also place advertisements between posts (in the post list) and comments. The premium version includes some exclusive features such as background skin ads and sticky floating ads.
You can also restrict your ads from appearing on specific content by targeting specific categories, tags, taxonomies, referrers, and more. User-specific targeting rules, such as logged-in status, user role, geolocation, and more, provide even more flexibility.
One of the best things about Ad Inserter is that you get a ton of options for automatically inserting ads.
Pricing
WordPress.org has a free version of Ad Inserter that should work for most sites.
The premium version is also reasonably priced. It ranges between €20 and €100, depending on the features you require and the number of sites you have.
2. Advanced Ads
Another popular WordPress ad management plugin listed on WordPress.org is Advanced Ads.
It, like Ad Inserter, is jam-packed with features to help you manage your ads. It is also very good at automatically inserting ads and targeting them to specific details.

Overall, I think Advanced Ads’ interface is nicer and more user-friendly than the Ad Inserter plugin above, but the Ad Inserter plugin has a more generous free version and is slightly less expensive.
Overall, it’s another excellent WordPress ad management solution – it all comes down to what you value the most between it and Ad Inserter. This is one of the best WordPress Advertising Plugins in 2025.
Important Characteristics:
- AdSense, Media.net, Amazon, and other ad platforms are all supported. You can also create your own custom ads (you can even use the TinyMCE editor to create ads).
- Automatic insertion – You get flexible rules to automatically insert ads in various areas of your website.
- Target your ads to specific types of users (for example, hide ads for logged-in users), devices, geolocations, and so on.
- A/B testing and ad rotation – rotate your ads and track statistics to see which ones perform the best.
- Advertisement scheduling
- Lazy loading – load your ads slowly to improve performance.
- Sticky advertisements
- Sell ads directly to businesses using a fully automated solution. You can accept payment through Advanced Ads (which is handled by WooCommerce), and advertisers can have their own account to view frontend stats. Use a variety of billing models, including day rate, CPC, CPM, and custom conditions.
Ad Insertion Options
Advanced Ads, like Ad Inserter, provides a plethora of ad insertion options, including the following:
- Post content top/bottom
- Following any paragraph or headline (including randomization)
- At a particular HTML element
- Sidebars/widgets
- Manual positioning using shortcodes or PHP functions
- Footer
There are also integrations for bbPress, BuddyBoss, and BuddyPress, allowing you to easily insert ads in specific areas of your community.
You can also show/hide ads based on various criteria such as:
- Content (categories, tags, post types, specific content, authors, and more)
- Visitor gadget
- User Role of a Visitor
- URL previously visited
- Geolocation
- Browser width
Pricing
Advanced Ads has a limited free version available on WordPress.org that is adequate for basic WordPress ad management.
If you want more features, the developer sells both the core Pro version and a variety of premium add-ons.
Advanced Ads Pro alone costs €49, while the All Access pass costs €89.
3. AdSanity
Pixel Jar, a WordPress development agency, offers AdSanity, a premium WordPress ad management plugin.
It’s a viable option to consider if you’re primarily looking for an ad management plugin for manual ad placement. That is, you intend to control the ad placements manually, but you want a tool that will allow you to easily manage which ads appear in those slots.

It provides useful features such as ad rotation, weighting, scheduling, and more to help you make the best use of your ad spaces. This is one of the best WordPress Advertising Plugins in 2025.
Important Characteristics:
- All ads are supported; you can add your own custom ads or insert ads from ad networks such as AdSense or Media.net.
- Ad scheduling – schedule ads to only run during certain times.
- Rotate ads – You can rotate multiple ads in the same position at the same time.
- Ad weighting – make some ads appear more frequently than others.
- Conditional user role display enables you to hide ads based on a site visitor’s user role. For example, you could show advertisements to anonymous visitors while hiding advertisements from paying members.
- Adblock detection – display a special message requesting that people disable their adblock.
- Sell ads – Gravity Forms can be used to sell ads directly to advertisers, including accepting payments through the form.
- Advertiser reporting – people who advertise on your site receive a self-service dashboard where they can view stats for their ads.
Ad Insertion Options
AdSanity focuses primarily on manual placement. Ads can be placed in your site’s code using PHP template tags, shortcodes, or widgets.
As previously stated, you can also show/hide ads based on a user’s role.
Overall, if you’re looking for manual placement, this is a good option. If you want automatic ad injection, however, you’ll need to use a different ad management plugin.
Pricing
AdSanity only has a premium version, but it’s reasonably priced for what you get.
Prices begin at only $49.
4. Ads Pro
Ads Pro is the most popular WordPress ad plugin on Envato’s CodeCanyon marketplace, with over 9,000 purchases and a solid 4.48-star rating from nearly 400 reviews.

Overall, this plugin excels if you want to sell ads directly to advertisers because it supports various billing models such as CPM (cost per 1,000 views), CPC (cost per click), and CPD (cost per thousand impressions) (cost per day).
Another noteworthy feature of this plugin is its unique ad placement options. This is one of the best WordPress Advertising Plugins in 2025.
If all you want is a plugin to insert “standard” ads from AdSense or another platform, I’d recommend looking elsewhere. Ads Pro can certainly do that, but there are some excellent free plugins that perform just as well (if not better), such as Ad Inserter and Advanced Ads.
Important Characteristics:
- Flexible ad insertion – in addition to in-content ads, you get some unique placement options, which I’ll go over below.
- Manage both ad spaces and individual ads with ad space management.
- Display/hide ads based on time delay – for example, display ads after the user has spent 10 seconds on the page.
- Ad capping – limit the number of ads displayed per user session. Make it so that a user does not see more than 20 ads during their visit, for example.
- Advertisement scheduling
- Ad rotation and A/B testing
- Targeting rules that are flexible – includes device detection, geotargeting, content targeting, and more.
- Direct ad sales entails selling ads directly with a great deal of flexibility. It includes payment support (via WooCommerce) and provides advertisers with their own frontend dashboard to view statistics.
- Discounts for loyal customers – provide discounts to ad buyers who purchase multiple times.
- A detailed dashboard provides an overview of all of your ad spaces, ad sales, impressions, clicks, and more.
Ad Insertion Options
You must first create an ad space in Ads Pro. You can then define the billing model for that space.
You can use shortcodes and widgets to place an ad space. You can automatically insert an ad space into your content, but you must do so through a separate interface, and it is less flexible than other plugins because you can only use preset options and there is no randomization.
However, Ads Pro does provide you with some unique placement options, such as the following:
- Floating advertisements in any corner.
- Advertisements that appear when you hover over a link.
- Full-screen layer advertisements.
- Background advertisements (appear outside the site container).
- Popup advertisements, including an exit-intent popup.
Pricing
Ads Pro is only available in a premium version. The core premium plugin costs $57 and is available through CodeCanyon, with six months of support and lifetime updates for a single site included.
The developer also sells a few add-ons, such as an affiliate program or a marketing agency. These cost between $17 and $27 each.
5. QUADS WP
WP QUADS began as a WordPress AdSense plugin, but it has since evolved into a full-service WordPress ad management plugin that supports all ad vendors as well as your own custom ads.
It provides a modern, user-friendly dashboard as well as numerous options for deciding where and when to display advertisements.

It doesn’t have direct ad selling features, but it’s a great alternative if you’re inserting ads from networks like AdSense and Media.net and/or running your own custom ads. This is one of the best WordPress Advertising Plugins in 2025.
Important Characteristics:
- Automatic ad insertion – easily insert ads at various locations on your site.
- It supports all types of ads and has dedicated integrations for 8+ popular ad networks such as AdSense, Media.net, Mediavine, and others. You can also include your own custom advertisements or ad codes.
- Support for adblockers – If a user is using an adblocker, you can redirect them, display a popup, display a custom message, or display a bar.
- Targeting rules allow you to target ads based on specific content on your site, user role/logged-in status, device, referring URL, geolocation, and other factors.
- Improve ad performance with lazy loading (it even works with AdSense ads).
- Unique features in the Pro version – The Pro version includes unique features for ad blindness and ad skipping.
- Advertisement rotation
- View reports to see your top-performing advertisements.
WP QUADS does not currently support A/B testing at the time of writing, but the developer is working on it.
Ad Insertion Options
WP QUADS provides the following options for automatically injecting ads:
- A post’s beginning, middle, and end.
- Following a specific paragraph.
- Following an image.
- In terms of word count.
- After a percentage – for example, 25% down the page.
- Following any HTML tag.
- Within the “loop” (WordPress post list page).
You can also manually place advertisements using a shortcode or a PHP function.
Aside from that, you get a slew of targeting rules, including the following:
- Post type, category, tag, and more specific content
- Status or role of the logged-in user
- Device
- URL referred to
- Browser width
Pricing
The core WP QUADS plugin is free to download from WordPress.org.
The free version should be sufficient for most sites, but the Pro version adds features such as ad rotations, group insertion, geolocation, unlimited ads, and AMP integration.
The Pro version costs $89.
Which WordPress Ad Management Plugin Is the Best?
The best WordPress advertising plugin is entirely dependent on your specific requirements. You should consider the following questions when selecting the right plugin:
- Are you willing to spend money on a premium ad management plugin, or do you prefer to keep things free?
- How do you want to incorporate advertisements into your content? Will you manually place all of your ad slots, or will you use an ad injection plugin?
- Are your ads already responsive (for example, AdSense responsive ads) or do you require a plugin that allows you to serve different ads based on the device of the user?
- Do you require specialized features such as geotargeting or user role targeting? Or will you show the same ads to everyone?
- Will you sell ads directly to advertisers or will you rely solely on your own display ads or networks such as AdSense? Do you need your plugin to handle payments and provide advertisers with their own frontend self-service dashboard if you’re selling directly?
If you’re looking for a free WordPress ad plugin, I believe Ad Inserter and Advanced Ads are your best options. Advanced Ads has the more user-friendly interface of the two, but Ad Inserter has a more feature-rich free version. You can choose between the two based on what is most important to you.

WP QUADS is a good free ad management plugin as well. The slick interface and dedicated integrations with some unique ad platforms, such as Mediavine, are appealing features of this plugin.
Premium versions of those plugins are still viable options if you’re willing to pay. AdSanity is another viable option here.
Consider Ads Pro if you want to sell ads directly. It’s more adaptable in that regard because it offers unique features like CPM and CPC bidding, rather than just flat-rate ad rates. Alternatively, Advanced Ads has a good add-on that supports various billing models.
